We couldn’t get our tracked machine into the central area due to space restrictions, and concrete foundations would have meant digging up the site – far from ideal for a sensitive location like this. The project still required foundations that could handle the structural loads of a public bridge while working around these tight site constraints, which made ground screws a fitting choice. The solutionWe adapted our installation method to accommodate the site’s access limitations. Our team used handheld equipment to install six 76mm x 2500mm extendable ground screws, which provided the necessary load-bearing capacity for the bridge structure. We adjusted each screw to the exact height required, ensuring perfect alignment across the varying ground levels. Load testing was carried out for safety. Flexibility was essential for precisely placing the bridge foundations, despite the challenging terrain. The resultsThe ground screws delivered immediate load-bearing capacity and perfect structural alignment for the bridge installation, proving that our foundations work effectively even in restricted access situations where traditional methods wouldn’t be viable.Powys County Council now has a properly supported bridge that’ll serve the public for years to come, all while protecting the environment.
