I used The Ground Screw Centre to build the base for a garden office, as the garden was on a slope and I wanted to avoid concrete. I was very pleased, not only with the service from GSC but also the quality of these screws. They are well-built, and fairly easy to install (you might need the ratchet if doing a large number). It only took about 3 hours to install all 20 ground screws, but it took another hour or so to get them all level across the timber base. Once the frame was mounted all the ground screws were sharing the weight.

These Ground screws were super easy to install myself. I recommend the ratcheted installation tool. And doing them after some rain when the ground is softer. Much easier and more pleasant than concrete. Fab customer service too!

Used the online calculator to work out how many screws I needed for my decking project and then ordered them online. Delivery was quick and the screws themselves are really good quality. Will definitely use them again.”

I am DIYER making a garden office on sloping clay soil. I used 12 ground screws (850mm) with the manual ratchet. The ground screws have helped create a very sturdy subfloor for my structure. Super impressed with the product. GSC staff were super helpful and talked through my needs on the phone. Will go back there for the next project!

Are ground screws easy to install?
Yes, ground screws are very simple to install. You can start turning it into the ground by hand and then use the hand tool once it becomes too difficult to turn. For each ¼ turn of the handle, the ground screw will move 10mm further into the ground.
How do ground screws work and are they stable?
Ground screws use the standard pile principles which have been reliably applied since the Ancient Greeks! The process of installing the ground screws will compact the surrounding local soil and solidify the substructure. Other forces such as skin friction, clamping pressure and thread interlocking will all contribute to its load bearing capacity. This method ensures your foundation requires no digging, no mess, no concrete and the install process 75% faster!
